End of the School Year Celebrations

June 01, 2018
  • The preschool had so many beautiful things to celebrate at the end of our school year. Mother’s Day is a special time, and the students were sure to mark this special day honoring their moms with beautiful handmade creations of painted flower pots, hand-painted tiles, flowers and canvas prints. They were all creative and definite keepsakes for Moms to cherish forever.

Our Expedition and Odyssey classrooms had a weeklong celebration jamming out to Rock Band in their classes that finished off the year of Music with Mrs. Ami, our Music teacher. She had a great time performing and singing on stage with the children during Music class. The Art Appreciation program culminated its end of year program with a trip to the Chicago Art Institute on Monday, May 29. It gave an opportunity for students, with their parent(s), to view the exhibited art pieces shown to them throughout the school year. This event was led by our teacher, Mrs. Lindy Rubin.

We celebrated Teacher Appreciation week with our parents delivering handwritten notes, special drink deliveries and personal gifts from all of our families. We also recognized six teachers on staff who have been with the preschool for more than ten years: Kathie Brady (12), Peg Bramhall (15), Brooke Davis (11), Deb Moore (10), Sue Peecher (21) and Penny Strang (13). They are a wonderful part of our program and continue their dedication to nurturing the love of learning in our students.

Our last Faithbuilding class was led by Dr. Barry, who talked with the children about his role during church services. He showed the children the organ, how the sound is generated from the pipes and played a few songs that the children have heard before. They were lucky enough to view a room behind the organ that is not visible by the congregation; it is where some of the pipes are located. The children asked some insightful questions and were happy to sit where the choir typically is seated during a service; they preferred the view from high above. They enjoyed learning about the organ shoes Dr. Barry has to wear to play the chords with his feet!

During the last week of school, classes took students on nature walks, and explored Triangle Park and Lake Forest Beach to celebrate the end of the year. They had time to play at the beach, eat lunch, have a story read and take some last class photos. These were all unique moments for the children, and they will remember them for years to come!
